This 17th century, luxury, boutique hotel is the only 4-star hotel in the center of Lancaster, and is superbly located in the heart of the city center.
The hotel was originally built in the 17th century and is the oldest bar/hotel still operating in Lancaster. With luxurious rooms and comfortable furnishings, the hotel is an ideal base for an upmarket stay in the city.
The hotel is located in the very center of Lancaster, within yards of the castle and all the city's other attractions. St Martin’s College (University of Cumbria) and Lancaster University are both an easy commute from the hotel. The hotel regularly welcomes many visiting academics from both institutes.

Since the current owners bought The Sun Hotel in 2003, they have carefully rebuilt it.
The Sun Hotel is a listed building situated in the Lancaster Castle Conservation Area. As a result, it was impossible to add an elevator- the 2nd and 3rd floors are accessed by stairs.
Room information
There is a wide selection of rooms ranging from small budget rooms through to the luxury suite with 2 flat-screen TVs, stand alone bathtub and separate sitting area.
Area information
The hotel is situated in the very center of Lancaster, within yards of the castle and all the city's other attractions. It is within 92 m of Parksafe parking lot which is staffed 24 hours a day. The hotel is conveniently located for getting to the train and bus station, both are within a 5 minute walk away. The Lake District is on Lancaster's doorstep and many people choose to utilize Lancaster as a stopping-off point en route to the Lakes.
Travel information
By Car
If travelling by car we recommend parking at Parksafe car park which is less than 92 m from the hotel. Due to Lancaster's one-way system, we advise our guests to park at Parksafe (St George's Quay) first. The car park is clearly signed on the one-way system.
From the train station:
The train station is approximately 458 m from the hotel and an easy 5-10 minute walk.
From the bus station:
The bus station is less than 275 m away.
Important Information
Due to the architectural nature of the building, there is no elevator access to rooms. Staff are happy to help carry luggage.
